Late Babukaka Shirgaokar Memorial Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2019 got an Astonishing start in Bapat Balshikshan Mandir, Sangli (MAH) yesterday. Nutan Buddhibal Mandal (NBM), Sangli celebrating their 52nd year of organization of Summer Chess Festival by organizing tournaments for Age Category Young Charms, Veteran Players, Special Rating Tournament for Women Players without charging a single rupee for entry fee in order to promote chess culture in women.
NBM has organized Tournaments in all formats in this year’s festival and this Tournament has also got a very good response in spite of the fact that we are having many rating tournaments nearby going on in parallel. 226 Players are playing in this event with Anish Gandhi of Kolhapur(MAH) as top seed with ELO 2198 rating. IM Ramanathan Balasubramaniam of Railways, Raghav Srivathsav of Telangana, Kiran Panditrao of Customs & CGST, Rao Malleshwara of Andhra Pradesh & Nagare Akhilesh of Maharashtra are amongst few highly rated players who are trying their best on top boards to clinch the title.

Tournament was inaugurated by Shantikant Nathe, Chairman Latthe education Society, a well known educational institute in this area along with Mr. Digambar Kotibhaskar, Mr. Ramesh Charhate, Dr. Ulhas Mali & Tournament director Mr. Chintamani Limaye by Lamp lighting ceremony followed by inaugural moves over chess board. A Players meet was conducted by Chief Arbiter FA Vivek Sohani along with Deputy Chief Arbiter FA Dipak Vaychal where Tournament rues were discussed with all the players and parents to make them familiar with recent upgradations in rules and special regulations related to tournament.
Round 1 didn’t witnessed an any major upsets. Top seeded players won their respective games where Shravani Mhetre (1044) held local veteran Player Rajeev Kolhatkar(1637) to a draw with amazing endgame skills. Shreyas Patil (1049) demolished Vinit Dhoot (1637) on board 22 and Aware Kedar (1026) held Muthu Rahul (1600) to a draw.
Anish Gandhi , IM R. Balasubramaniam and Kiran Panditrao won their respective games where Tikam Aradhya (1238) & Prathamesh Kashid (1225) drew their games with Dheeraj Dubey (1780) & Rawal Shailesh (1735) in Round 2.
A well ventilated hall with proper lighting arrangements is provided by organizers with excellent playing conditions for players. Chief Arbiter ensured all Players have Completed AICF registrations before the start of first round ! A perfect schedule is getting followed as discussed in players meet. Today we are having Two Rounds at 09: 30 Hrs & 15: 30 Hrs where Chess Lovers can Visit the Tournament Hall and Enjoy this event on a holiday….
